The Department of Children, Youth, and Families puts children at the center of state government, creating a permanent state agency and commissioner focused on elevating children and families in policy and budget decisions.

The primary function of this department is resolution of charges of illegal discrimination, public education aimed at eliminating and preventing discrimination and promotion of employment opportunities for women, minorities and persons with disabilities.

Human Services offers programs for health care, child support, child protection, food support, general assistance, nursing home care, seniors, people who are deaf, people who have developmental disabilities, foster care, adoption, child care assistance, refugee services, adolescent services and homelessness prevention, and adult and children's mental health services.

Assists Minnesota's Veterans and their dependents to obtain the benefits and services provided by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and the State of Minnesota. The Department also manages the state's five Veterans Homes and the State Veterans Cemetery.
