PE 602: Research Foundation in Sport: Interlibrary Loan

What is Interlibrary Loan?

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a free service that allows you to get copies of books or articles that SMSU doesn't own. We borrow the materials from other libraries in the state or around the country to fill your research needs. It is a simple, quick service that greatly expands your access to research materials.

If you are a 100% online student, you can also use interlibrary loan to have physical materials from SMSU's collection mailed to you.

Using Interlibrary Loan Services

If you need to use Interlibrary Loan Services and are unfamiliar with how it works, please see the Interlibrary Loan guide (linked below) for more information.  Still have questions? Ask a Librarian!

Article Requests - Things to Note

  • ILL requests for articles (and other communication) are sent only to your SMSU student email account.

  • Your ILL requests for articles often arrive within 72 hours, but don't depend on it. Officially the minimum number of days between request and delivery is 10 days.

  • Most articles are available for 7 days or 5 views; whichever happens first, so you MUST be looking for your Interlibrary Loan requests regularly or they will disappear. In other words, after you request an article via Interlibrary Loan, you will want to be checking your SMSU email account regularly for the request.

Requesting Materials

Need to request an article or book via Interlibrary Loan? Check out the How to Request link in the Interlibrary Loan guide. It breaks down by Articles/Chapters and Books/Films/CDs and explains the process for each format.
